We are going to try to help you navigate through the visa systems in Rwanda and determine the best visa option for you. Please know that before we even get started, the visa process and guidelines are very simple and straightforward. Please visit https://www.migration.gov.rw/ as the details we have summarized for you are available there.

Everyone will receive a visa upon arrival (tourist). There is not a way to pre-apply so please don’t worry. Once you land, the process takes less than five minutes and is $50 (which can be payable via cash or a credit card).

  1. I found out about the V-12 visa recently and I would like to apply; however, my flight is in less than 2 weeks so I don’t want to chance it at this moment. I know it says one must apply in the United States but, upon looking further, it appears as though it can be done in Rwanda as well.

“This visa is issued at the office of a diplomatic mission of Rwanda in the applicant’s country of residence, at the Directorate General or any other place as may be determined by the Directorate General. “

  2. I’m planning to apply for the 90 day East Africa tourist visa. It allows me to visit other countries but I don’t believe I am required to visit them, right?

    1. Hello!! The V12 is a popular visa and easy to navigate. Yes, one would have to leave the country of Rwanda and come back….however, leaving can mean going to a neighboring country for at least one day and then come back in. Which means you can just go some place for the weekend (quick vacation) and then come right back in no problem. Rwanda does not regulate where, nor how long you are gone.

      I hope that helps!

    1. At this time, the answer is yes. It is not advertised but it is possible if you ask or just go online to Irembo and complete.

  3. Which visa will be best for my family to apply for? We are a family of 6. 4 children.

    1. Hello!!!

Any visa that has “dependents” listed you qualify for. You can apply for one adult and the rest can be “dependents” which would be the kids and the spouse. You can also apply for two adults and just list the kids as your dependents. Then the next piece goes for your goals here in Rwanda. You need to make sure your visa is attached properly to your goals.

To figure this out, I would say…simply, get the visa on arrival when you land. That is good for 30 days (tourist), you can easily extend it for 90 additional days under (tourist) by that time you can decide which direction you want to go. If you will do the reciprocity, business, investor or other. By the time you get here, you have time to figure out your goals and then apply for the correct visa.

  4. Peace and Love My Cousin Connections Family!
I just joined and I am super excited. I have been looking into Rwanda for a while and ready to take the necessary steps to start my process and have Rwanda be my forever home. I am looking for a Visa for myself and my daughter, I am self-employed, running my business in the USA.

I would like to get more specific detail on the Class C Visa and the V12 Visa knowing that dependents are not allowed and which Visa is best for my situation.

Looking forward to hearing from MCC Family!

    1. Hey!!!

First of all welcome and we are glad you are here! It does seem like the Class C visa will be best in your situation! Send an email to jai@mycousinconnection.com and we can see if we can give you a contact person at immigration that can clarify your questions or just a consult to go through all the options.

  5. If we plan to open up a business and generate an income for us and other locals we hope to employ, should we consider applying for temporary residency through the G2 visa or C1 visa if we fall under the “prescribed professional” category?

    1. This is part of the planning we consider when discussing options for visas. Applying for the temporary residency gives you time to really plan out your business, make contacts and secure what you need or want without worrying about taxes or deadlines. I would definitely go this route.

  6. With the V12 visa it says that change of status isn’t possible, does that mean that it wouldn’t be possible to switch to a business visa if I wanted to?
